Will insurance cover my hail damage?

If you carry comprehensive coverage — almost certainly yes. Here's how hail claims work in Tennessee, and how we make sure yours pays for a proper repair.

The short answer

Comprehensive coverage = covered

Hail is classified as a weather event, which falls under the comprehensiveportion of your auto policy — not collision. If you carry comprehensive coverage (most financed and leased vehicles are required to), hail damage is covered and you typically pay only your deductible. And in Middle Tennessee, it's a matter of when, not if — hail season runs March through June.

If you carry liability-only insurance, hail damage isn't covered — but paintless dent repair costs far less than body-shop work, so an out-of-pocket repair is often more affordable than people expect.

Step by step

How a hail claim works

  1. 01

    Document the damage

Once it's safe, photograph your vehicle — wide shots and close-ups in good light. Don't rush to a drive-through estimate line; documentation protects you.

  2. 02

    File a comprehensive claim

Call your insurer or file online and tell them it's hail damage. You'll get a claim number and an adjuster will be assigned to inspect the vehicle.

  3. 03

    Get the insurer's estimate

The adjuster writes an initial estimate. With hail, these routinely miss dents — bad lighting and quick inspections undercount damage.

  4. 04

    We take it from there

Bring the estimate to us. We re-inspect under proper PDR lighting, document everything the adjuster missed, and handle the supplement process with your insurer directly.

  5. 05

    Pay your deductible. That's it.

Your insurance covers the repair; you cover the deductible. Your vehicle keeps its factory finish, and the repair is done in days — not weeks.

Why having us in your corner matters

Insurers often quote hail damage at half of what a proper repair takes. We've worked hail claims for years — we know what a correct estimate looks like, we document every dent, and we hold the insurance company accountable so the repair is done right, not cheap. You deal with us; we deal with the adjuster.

Common questions

Hail claim FAQs

Will my insurance rates go up if I file a hail claim?
Hail damage falls under comprehensive coverage, and comprehensive claims are considered not-at-fault — weather isn't something you caused. In most cases a single hail claim won't raise your premium the way an at-fault accident would, though every policy and insurer is different, so it's worth a quick call to your agent.
Should I file a claim for minor hail damage?
It depends on your deductible. If the repair costs less than (or close to) your deductible, paying out of pocket usually makes more sense. If the damage clearly exceeds it — which is common when hail covers multiple panels — a comprehensive claim typically means you only pay the deductible. Get a free quote first so you can compare real numbers before deciding.
What if the insurance estimate seems too low?
It often is. Initial hail estimates frequently come in at half of what a proper repair takes. The fix is a supplement — a revised estimate documenting the damage the first one missed. We handle that process directly with your insurance company and make sure the repair is paid for in full, not shortcut.
Do I have to use the repair shop my insurance company recommends?
No. In Tennessee, you have the right to choose who repairs your vehicle. Insurer-recommended shops are suggestions, not requirements — and direct-repair shops sometimes work to the insurer's numbers rather than what a quality repair actually takes.
